Where I come from

My Story part one!

April 16

—I was born during a fierce snowstorm in December, in a remote cabin nestled in the woods. My arrival into this world was anything but ordinary. It was unplanned, intense, and unforgettable. My mother was home alone with my 2-year-old sibling, while my father, a deckhand on a ferry, was away at work. Despite her instincts telling her otherwise, he thought there was still time before I arrived. Life, however, had other plans. When labor began, my mother called for help. The first ambulance broke down, and the second one, battling the winter cold, arrived without heat. As the first responders worked to deliver me, the front door of our cabin was left wide open, extinguishing the fire in the woodstove and chilling the air. When I finally entered the world, I was dusky blue—a fragile fighter ready for my first sled ride down our 500-foot driveway hill to the waiting ambulance. My journey continued with a 45-minute ride to the hospital.I was born with a cleft palate, a challenge I’ve faced since day one. And just two years into my life, I faced another: the loss of my mother. Her love and strength, though, live on in me. Despite the obstacles, she brought me into this world with courage and resilience. My story is one of survival, determination, and hope. From my very first moments, I was a reminder that even in the most trying circumstances, the human spirit can prevail. If I’ve learned one thing, it’s this: we are all capable of incredible strength when life demands it of us.—
