Winds of Change

Today, I feel the winds of change in the air—a gentle nudge from nature reminding me that nothing stays the same forever. It’s the spring equinox, a turning point where day and night find balance. For a single mother in Vermont, the balance often feels elusive. But today, as I step outside, I see the signs of a new season and a sense of renewal stirs within me.

The warmth is on its way, and with it comes freedom—the kind that lets my kids and I escape the cocoon of our home and embrace the outdoors without layers upon layers of winter gear. There’s a joy in feeling the sun on your face, in watching the snow retreat to reveal the earth, even if what reappears is a reminder of winter’s mess. Yes, the refuse resurfaces as the snow melts. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and clean up, literally and figuratively.

Life as a single mom often feels like an eternal winter—challenging, cold, and sometimes isolating. But just like the seasons, it’s never stagnant. The equinox reminds me that light returns, growth happens, and even the hardest winters eventually give way to spring. So here’s to embracing the winds of change, welcoming the thaw, and finding beauty in both the mess and the promise of renewal.

Let’s get to it, Vermont. The snow may be melting, but this heart? It’s already blooming. 🌸
